iCALL (in partnership with Vishakha, an NGO in Rajasthan), has been running an annual training institute titled, ‘Fostering Strengths: A Certificate Course in Psychosocial Skills for working with adolescents and young people’, since April 2017. The 3 months course is aimed to equip those helping professionals in India who are engaged with issues of adolescent and youth well-being. The course is run in dual mode (residential institute and distant fieldwork/practicum mode along with weekly supervision sessions) and aims to equip helping professionals with knowledge, perspectives and skills that are contextualized, evidence-based and multi-layered.
The thematic areas covered in the course range across issues such as relationship concerns, gender and sexuality, academic and career concerns, violence, abuse and trauma, substance and habitual addictions, self-harm and suicidality, common mental health concerns etc.
This year, the course started off in April, with 10 participants coming in from diverse backgrounds such as education, counselling, child welfare among others.
